We know starting therapy can feel overwhelming. Here are answers to some of the most common questions we get.
Therapy is a space where you can talk openly with a trained professional about what you are going through. It is not just for people in crisis. Therapy can help with everyday stress, relationship issues, anxiety, depression, grief, and so much more. Think of it as having someone in your corner who is fully focused on helping you work through whatever life is throwing at you.
The cost of therapy varies depending on the therapist, your location, and your insurance coverage. Many therapists offer sliding scale fees based on your income, and a lot of insurance plans cover mental health services. On MindFirst you can filter therapists by cost so you can find someone who fits your budget without any surprises.
Getting started is easier than you might think. Take our short matching quiz and tell us a little about yourself and what you are looking for. We will match you with therapists who fit your needs. You can browse their profiles, read their bios, and reach out when you feel ready. No sign up required to look around.
Our quiz takes less than five minutes and asks you a few simple questions about what you are looking for in a therapist, what you are hoping to work on, your preferences around identity affirming care, and your budget. We use your answers to surface therapists who are a good fit for you. You are always in control of who you reach out to.
In most cases no. You can reach out to a therapist directly without a referral from a doctor. Some insurance plans may require a referral for coverage so it is worth checking with your provider. But browsing and connecting through MindFirst does not require one.
That is completely okay and more common than you might think. Finding the right therapist can sometimes take a couple of tries and that is nothing to feel bad about. The relationship between you and your therapist matters a lot, so if something does not feel right it is okay to keep looking. MindFirst makes it easy to browse other options and find someone who is a better fit.
Yes. Privacy is something we take very seriously at MindFirst. Therapists are bound by confidentiality laws which means what you share in sessions stays between you and your therapist with very limited exceptions. You can also browse our platform without creating an account so you never have to share anything you are not comfortable with.
MindFirst connects you with therapists who specialize in a wide range of approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, EMDR for trauma, and person centered care among others. When you take the quiz we match you based on your needs so you do not have to figure out which type is right for you on your own.
We are here to help. Reach out to us anytime and we will get back to you as soon as possible.
